Objectives:
1. What are the 3 major parts of the brainstem? How is the cerebellum attached to them?
2. What are the major differences in cross section between the 3 parts of the brainstem?
3. What is the difference between the roof, tegmentum and base of a given stem cross section?
4. Name and number the cranial nerves and attachment sites. What are their major functions?
5. Appreciate :
(1) the local functions of the stem and
(2) its "housing" of long tracts projecting from and to distant (forebrain, cerebellum and spinal cord)sites, and
(3) those long tracts passing through it.
