WEEKLY OVERVIEW
- In lectures on Tuesday and Thursday, we will begin to put together a central nervous system from the basic parts that you now understand.
- We start with an overview of the brainstem and cranial nerves, building on principles you encountered in the spinal cord lecture last week.
- Pay attention to terminology, particularly the names of external and internal landmarks.
- Begin to recognize on cross sections, groups of neuron cell bodies (nuclei=gray matter) and their axons (tracts=white matter).
- If you have nothing else to do, quiz each other on the cranial nerves: names, numbers, brainstem attachment sites, and eventually, major functions represented clinically.
- Continue having a good time with all this!
